Main area: Paediatric Ward Sister/Charge Nurse - Emergency Dept Grade Band 7

Contract: Permanent & 12 month Fixed Term to cover maternity leave

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Fixed Term & Permanent position is 30hrs a week)

Children's Emergency Department Sister/Charge Nurse Band 7 (CED)

30hrs a week Permanent Position & Fixed term 1 year maternity leave cover commencing April 2025

Our Children's Emergency Department treats approximately 50,000 children each year. Alongside providing emergency care for the local population, we are a regional referral unit for the South West of England and one of England's five standalone Paediatric Major Trauma Centres.

The Department has a standalone resuscitation area that can provide care for 4 patients at any time and has recently expanded to increase the main departmental area to see, treat, and care for patients.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate for the role will:

  • Deliver 24/7 professional and clinical leadership and care and operational management of the department.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, responsive, safe, efficient, and compassionate care.
  • Support the Matron in developing the service.
  • Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach in a role which encompasses leadership, management, and clinical responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of emergency nursing care.

  • Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard
Training & Qualifications
  • RSCN Part 8 / RN (Child Branch, Part 15) or RN
  • Post basic certificate or related study in neonatal critical care
  • Degree in related area of clinical practice or very clear evidence of degree level study in the last 2 years
Knowledge & Experience
  • Five years post registration.
  • Previous Band 6 experience in relevant area
  • Teaching experience
  • Mentoring and Assessing or Teaching qualification
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge
Skills & Abilities
  • Basic computer skills and competent to use windows based programs
  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others
  • Good problem solving ability & skills
  • Evidence of ability to use initiative, lead a team and manage change
  • Ability to manage when under both individual and/or work pressure
