Job Description
PCN Enhanced Nurse Practitioner - Respiratory Specialist

Nexus MK Primary Care Network (PCN) is seeking an experienced enhanced nurse practitioner, with a specialist interest in respiratory care, on a permanent, full-time basis. This role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership in respiratory services across multiple GP practices within the network.

The post holder will independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory conditions while also leading the development of respiratory services.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform specialist assessments like spirometry interpretation, peak flow monitoring, and oxygen therapy assessment.
  • Prescribe medications.
  • Manage complex cases.
  • Provide clinical leadership.
  • Support staff while working collaboratively across multiple GP practices within the network.
  • Lead the development and implementation of respiratory care pathways.
  • Establish and maintain clinical protocols and guidelines for respiratory care.
  • Coordinate with practice nurses and healthcare assistants to ensure consistent respiratory care delivery.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance respiratory services.
  • Monitor and evaluate service outcomes using audit and research methodologies.

Nexus MK PCN is comprised of Oakridge Park Medical Centre, Wolverton Health Centre, Sovereign Medical Centre, Purbeck Health Centre, and The Stonedean Practice. Each of the five practices in Nexus MK has signed up to the Network Contract DES, which details their core services and entitlements.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current NMC registration with an active PIN.
  • Independent nurse prescriber qualification.
  • Master's level Advanced Clinical Practice qualification or equivalent.
  • ARTP certification in spirometry performance and interpretation.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience.
  • At least 2 years in an advanced practice role.
  • Demonstrable expertise in respiratory disease management.
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience using clinical systems and IT.
  • Evidence of leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current knowledge of respiratory care guidelines.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team working.
  • Quality improvement project experience.
  • Experience working across multiple sites.
  • Member of respiratory specialist networks.
  • Publication/presentation experience in respiratory care.
  • Experience in developing clinical protocols.
  • Previous PCN or primary care experience.
