Job Description

We're building the future of home renovation.

We believe that renovation doesn't need to be complicated and there's a better way. Since 2022, Beams has been on a mission to deliver a simpler and greener renovation experience for homeowners and contractors facilitated through a tech first platform. More transparency, more efficiency and more trust between all involved.

Success at Beams comes from our people and our culture. Internally, we have a strong bias for action, we believe in making the complex simple and we never settle for the status quo. We're fueled by positive energy, fostering a culture of openness and doing the right thing. Both for people and the planet.

About the role

At Beams, we're transforming home renovation - making it simpler for homeowners and greener for the planet.

We believe that renovating a home should be just as special as living in one. The process should be easy and exciting, not overwhelming. But today, home renovation is often complex, stressful, and full of uncertainty. That's why we're rethinking it from the ground up - using technology to match homeowners with the right plan, the right design, and the right people to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient renovations.

Since launching in 2022, we've built an end-to-end service that guides homeowners through every step of the renovation journey, from planning to design to build. And because we believe the green choice should always be the easy choice, we're helping people create more energy-efficient homes for a better future for all.

At Beams, we move fast, challenge the status quo, and tackle big problems with bold ideas. We value action, simplicity, and positive energy, fostering a culture of openness and always doing the right thing-for homeowners, for builders, and for the planet.

If you're excited by the opportunity to reshape an industry and make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

We're solving high-impact, real-world challenges. Our roadmap includes:

  1. Building scalable, performant and engaging mobile-first web applications for our customers, our builder network and our internal team.
  2. Developing agentic AI driven process automation to drive scale, improve sales conversion, reduce human error & costly delays and bring innovative experiences to our customers.
  3. Providing secure payments to prevent fraud: financial transactions are core to every renovation so they must be transparent and secure, giving homeowners confidence and ensuring builders are paid fairly.
  4. Optimising supply chains and scheduling, simplifying procurement and cutting unnecessary transport emissions by ensuring the right materials arrive at the right time.

To deliver this, and much more, we build scalable and resilient systems, using a modern tech stack that includes:

  1. Cloud-native and distributed systems development in AWS
  2. Microservices and event-driven architectures in Typescript and Python
  3. CI/CD, IaC and a strong testing culture

As our most senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of this platform, taking ownership of engineering architecture and working directly on our most challenging and impactful initiatives. Your influence will extend across the team and the role demands both strategic insight and hands-on engineering expertise.

You'll also be a mentor and a coach, nurturing your teammates and fostering a culture of excellence, learning and collaboration. You'll work closely with our CTO and our Head of Product to refine our processes, enhance developer tooling, and create a path for continuous personal and professional growth within the engineering team.

Who we are looking for

You're a Lead, Staff or Principal Engineer who thrives in high-growth environments, enjoys tackling complex technical challenges, and is driven by the opportunity to shape the future of engineering at Beams. You bring deep expertise in designing and scaling distributed systems, alongside a strong product mindset that balances technical excellence with business impact. You should have experience with:

  1. Architecting and scaling high-performance, distributed systems and writing clean, well-tested code in modern languages with a focus on reliability and maintainability.
  2. Developing technical strategy with the CTO, setting best practices, and mentoring engineers across teams, inspiring a close and collaborative engineering culture.
  3. Providing technical direction on high-impact projects that span multiple teams and leading design reviews and architectural discussions, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  4. Collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and business stakeholders.
  5. Optimising performance, security, and system resilience at scale.
  6. Scalable DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).
  7. Operationalising agentic AI and integrating AI-driven tooling into production systems.

Don't worry about ticking every box - if you're passionate about making renovation simpler and greener and share our commitment to making a positive impact, we strongly encourage you to apply for a role with us.
