Principal Flood Risk Hydraulic Modeller / Hydrologist

Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Flood Risk Hydraulic Modeller / Hydrologist to join our flood risk and drainage team, based in either London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol or Newcastle offices, with the opportunity to work flexibly from home in the future as much as needed to achieve best outcomes. The team undertakes a wide variety of major and challenging infrastructure projects across a range of private and public sectors.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in hydraulic modelling and hydrology assessment to support design of flood risk schemes and flood risk assessment services.
  2. Work independently on technical aspects from project inception, including methodology determination, hydrological calculation, hydraulic model build, quality assurance, calibration, simulation design, and reporting.
  3. Manage a range of project types independently and act as the main point of contact for clients.
  4. Instruct, supervise, and mentor junior staff in design and management of schemes.
  5. Contribute to and develop proposals for future work.
  6. Travel across the UK for project needs, including occasional work outside normal office hours.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Enthusiastic professional who enjoys challenges and wants to progress their career.
  2. Experienced in developing hydrological studies using UK methodologies (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook).
  3. Experience with hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, ESTRY, InfoWorks ICM).
  4. Experience delivering flood modelling commissions and assessments.
  5. Experience in technical reviews of hydraulic models.
  6. Engagement experience with local authorities and the Environment Agency.
  7. Experience in report writing and presentations.
  8. Knowledge of UK flood risk policy (NPPF, SPP, TAN15).
  9. Experience consulting and liaising with stakeholders (clients, LLFA, EA, water companies).
  10. Experience in planning application conditions discharge.
  11. Ability to promote flood risk services across the business.
  12. Proficient in IT systems (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office).
  13. Experience in preparing fee proposals.
  14. Degree level education or equivalent in a relevant field and chartered with CIWEM or equivalent.
  15. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, independent work capability, and collaborative approach.
  16. Commitment to health and safety practices.
  17. Team player with enthusiasm, flexibility, and versatility.
  18. Ability to mentor and support junior team members.
  19. Desire for professional development with Tetra Tech.
  20. Full UK Driving Licence.
  21. Security Clearance to minimum SC level preferable (or willing to apply for clearance essential).
