About the role:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be the project's single point of authority and accountability for the mechanical engineering discipline.

You will report to the Head of Engineering and be located at Preston, Lancashire, UK. Alternatively, you can work from our Warrington, UK location. You will work a hybrid schedule requiring 2 to 3 days per week onsite work.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working with the clients responsible engineering team.
  2. Develop design deliverables of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards, such as Design Proposal Drawings, Mechanical Flow Diagrams and Detailed Design Drawings. Checking and Approval of scoping and FEA calculations.
  3. Ensure that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
  4. Produce documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and presented.
  5. Prepare quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages.
  6. Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
  7. Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
  8. Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM.
  9. Present Mechanical engineering designs to clients and partners who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related.
  10. Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs.
  11. Production and checking of safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report.
  12. Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions and develop programme logic at bid / tender stages.
  13. Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skills and enhance our capabilities.
  14. Manage/maintain good working relationships with main counterparts in client or partner organisations.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Minimum 8+ years' experience in nuclear industry or regulated industry and at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
  3. Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they are applied.
  4. Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques applicable to mechanical design.
  5. Knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products / plant and equipment.
  6. Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
