Leading an established Education and Training team consisting of senior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, you will develop a strategy for learning and development of staff within the department from induction to expert practice.

Within the role you will be given scope to innovate and our department has a track record of developing extended roles for pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.

An important part of the role will be ensuring we are meeting the requirements for the new Pharmacy Degree and developing effective systems for providing support to trainees and newly qualified pharmacy team members.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job are leading the training team, organising training programmes for trainee staff in line with GPhC requirements, and acting as a Designated Supervisor for trainee pharmacists. Being an independent prescriber is highly desirable and ability to act as a DPP. You will network with other Education and Training leads in the region on collaborative projects. You will negotiate funding for courses with NHS England and promote education and research in the department.

We are looking for a compassionate individual who has the ability to develop others. The preferred candidate will be organised and will be able to adapt their approach to different individuals. A background of education in a previous role is required and evidence of leadership skills including coaching, mentoring and delegation.

Person Specification Education, Qualifications and Training
  • First degree in Pharmacy (Masters) or equivalent.
  • Registration as a Pharmacist in the UK through Pharmacist Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Post Graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant to the specialist service.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Computer literacy including Pharmacy applications.
  • Management training.
Experience & Knowledge Required
  • Wide experience of pharmacy including participation at a senior level in delivery of the specialist service.
  • Experience of staff management and motivation.
  • Providing advice, information and support to clinical directorates.
  • Thorough knowledge of the specialist service in secondary care and the 'bigger picture' - how it impacts on primary care and key issues for other stakeholders.
  • National standards and any medicines management standards relevant to the specialist area.
  • A general awareness of the Medicines Management framework, and of Clinical Governance.
  • Recent experience in hospital pharmacy relating to the specialist service.
  • Experience of medicines management service development and quality improvement.
  • Good standard of specialist knowledge in at least one clinical speciality.
