Eastern Green Link 2 (known as EGL2) is a multi-billion-pound project, which is being delivered via Joint Venture between National Grid and SSEN. This project focuses on the development of one of the Eastern HVDC Subsea Links, which will connect Scotland and England to support the transfer of renewable electricity to key UK centres of demand.
The Project Services Function has a significant role to play in supporting the delivery of this project, including cost control. This role will be responsible for all Cost Control activities for the assigned budget areas within the EGL2 project. To successfully operate within a regulated business environment, this role is required to monitor, control and report on all Cost matters required on the Project - this includes areas such as Forecasting, Budgeting, Change Control, Cost Reporting and Accrual Generation.
Working within the Project Team, as a Cost Controller you'll be expected to take a lead role in the coordination and fulfilment of all Cost Control activities required as part of the EGL2 Cost Control Team. You will comply with all safety policies and procedures, promoting safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.
This role welcomes applicants UK wide, and we offer hybrid working from office and home. You can expect to travel to our UK offices as required and your local office at least once a month.
Key accountabilities- Work with the responsible budget holders to ensure analysis and understanding of project scope and how their budget relates to that.
- Work within established procedures to undertake tasks relating to the cost control of projects. Review financial information to identify any anomalies or discrepancies to ensure management has access to up-to-date and accurate information.
- Maintain awareness of progress of work by proactively collecting necessary supporting material.
- Provide analysis and reporting of variances on a monthly basis ensuring all costs are correctly allocated.
- Ensure accurate forecasting is undertaken against remaining scope on a regular basis.
- Monitor cost performance and contingency drawdown.
- Provide support to the EGL2 Cost Manager.
What we do isn't just important - it's essential. That's why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we're looking for someone who has:
- Experience as a Cost Controller managing projects or programmes.
- Experience and competency with all aspects of Cost Control including Forecasting, Budgeting, Change Control, Cost Reporting and Accrual Generation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with an ability to liaise with all levels of the business.
- The ability to contribute to continuous improvement activities within the project, identifying and developing innovative methods for improving Cost Control processes and techniques.
- A collaborative approach, able to develop strong working relationships with all areas of the projects or programmes.
- Advanced proficiency with desktop applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI).
- Knowledge of own area of specialism (Cost Control) and a developing understanding of the wider organisational and programme environment.
- A Degree or similar qualification in a related subject area such as Finance, Business, Construction or Engineering.
- Additional qualifications and memberships such as APM would be a bonus.
A competitive salary between £41,000 - £52,000 - dependent on capability.
