Public Engagement Officer

The Senior Outreach Officer will work as part of the Public Engagement Team in the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King's College London, which is based at St Thomas' Hospital campus. Staff and PhD students focus on the science and engineering of medical imaging and aim to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, brain, and heart conditions.
Cancer Research UK has awarded funding to the CRUK City of London Radiation Research Centre of Excellence. As part of a larger CRUK network called RadNet, the centre features an ambitious research programme aimed to accelerate the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques and unlock the full potential of this mainstay treatment through world-first exploratory radiation biology and radiation oncology research.
The Centre is a world-class hub for cancer biotherapeutics. It brings together researchers from four central London centres: King's College London, University College London, Barts / Queen Mary University of London, and the Francis Crick Institute, two Academic Health Science Partnerships and >£1bn of academic and clinical infrastructure for the advancement of radiotherapy.
This is a part-time post (24.5 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 2 years.
About YouTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
- Educated to degree level or has relevant work experience
- An in-depth understanding of the purpose of Public Engagement and best practice
- Experience of running public engagement projects
- Experience of project management - working in parallel on projects of different scale and complexity, prioritising and meeting deadlines within budget
- Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent ability to engage with individuals of different diversities, age, and levels of expertise, including scientists, medical doctors, patients, school children, and artists
- Experience of using a variety of engagement methods
- Post Graduate qualification in communications, particularly science communication/public engagement
- Experience of working in the higher education sector
- Experience of delivering training in public engagement
- Commitment to personal professional development

Grade and Salary: £38,482 - £43,249 pro rata per annum, including London Weighting Allowance.
