Job Description

Are you looking for a new opportunity, something that is innovative and really starts to challenge the status quo and make a difference? We are seeking to appoint Consultants in Public Health who will work to improve the wellbeing and health of the people of Bradford. These are permanent posts, and we are looking for candidates who are dynamic, focused and skilled, and capable of driving projects at a pace necessary to deliver the changes needed to improve health and wellbeing and deliver evidence-based policy and strategy, within a passionate and ambitious public health department.

As well as our core public health team, Bradford Council secured £4.7 million funding from the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) to establish a Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC). We have built a new team of enthusiastic professionals who will work together to transform the Council into an evidence-led organisation that works as an equal partner in generating evidence that is used to deliver high-quality interventions and life-changing services to our citizens.

There is an opportunity for the successful candidates to be based within the core public health team, the HDRC, or to take on a mixed portfolio across both. Collaborative working across systems and sectors is how we do business in Bradford, so we are looking for leaders who relish the opportunity to join the team and work in this way.

Main duties of the job

Bradford is a vibrant community with innovative businesses and institutions that make up our large, young, and diverse city. At the heart of the north, the district possesses unmatched potential, a growing pipeline of talent, and an exceptional quality of life. But there is a ten-year life expectancy gap between the most deprived and least deprived areas of the Bradford district. Addressing these inequalities is one of our key priorities, and doing what we have always done is no longer an option. Our ability to address such inequalities will be improved by better research and evidence, and as a key member of the public health workforce, you will be at the heart of achieving this.

Let's talk about your skills and experience.

You will be either on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health (Specialist) Register or within 6 months of gaining entry.

You will have in-depth knowledge of evidence-based public health, methods of evaluation, and quality improvement.

You will have strong analytical skills, able to utilize both qualitative and quantitative information.

You will have a strong understanding of the interfaces between health, social care, and key partners (dealing with the wider determinants of health).

An Enhanced Disclosure check with Barred List will be undertaken for this post.
