The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Technical Advisor to join our Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Technical Advisory team based in Birmingham or London. You'll join a team of advisors and experts with a diverse range of background and experiences and join projects delivering advice to clients across our service markets. We are recognised industry experts and regularly win global awards for our technical advisory work.

We work on a variety of PPP projects in the transport and social infrastructure sectors, in the UK across Europe, Asia and North America. You will be working with multi-disciplinary teams across the range of Arup's technical expertise to advise our clients with Technical Due Diligences, Lifecycle, Sustainability, Project optimisation and related questions. Our work broadly falls into the following services: Grantor Technical Advisor, helping our clients to shape projects from inception to delivery; Lenders' Technical Advisor, helping our clients to ensure projects are bankable and deliverable, from tender to construction, and operation to handback; PPP Technical Advisory, working with Concessionaires to provide technical advice to PPP projects.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective - in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning - to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

As a Principal Technical Advisor, you will be comfortable with uncertainty and able to handle a varied workload of clients and projects. We would expect you to be involved with work winning, project delivery and to lead tasks and teams. We would also expect you to be flexible and work in an agile way for our clients. This also includes occasional business travel for site visits, client meetings and conference attendance.

The successful candidate will be a technical expert with excellent analysis and report writing skills. Capable in leading work with clients alongside leading projects and tasks and contributing as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop presentations and reports. You will be passionate about learning continuously, adapting to new tasks, and working on different types of problems and solutions. Supporting us as we grow our team capability and services, and developing junior staff members will also feature within this role.

Qualifications, skills and experience desired:

  • The ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical clients.
  • Applying data analysis approaches to provide evidence-based advice and insights for clients to determine the 'so what' and potential impacts.
  • Interest and first-hand experience with either PPP, Construction and/or Operation and Maintenance contracts.
  • Background in a client-facing role within an engineering consultancy firm or experience working within an infrastructure owner/operator.
  • Project delivery team leadership experience; a track record of successfully forming and managing agile multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Supporting business development and work winning activities.
