Rent Accountant

Sovereign Network Group (SNG) are seeking a proactive Rent Accountant to join our Finance team, based from our Wembley office.
This is a hybrid working role where you'll be in the office 2 days per week.
The Role:As Rent Accountant, you'll lead the reconciliation of weekly interfaces from the housing management system (NEC) into the finance system (SUN), as well as reconciling bank, rent and service charge control accounts. This involves processing and reconciling transactions for approximately £160m per annum for a portfolio of around 22,000 units.
Key Responsibilities include:- Posting weekly journals into SUN for rent and service charge transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy
- Reconciling customer payments made via third-party channels and resolving discrepancies
- Reviewing payment files and correcting misallocated remittances
- Undertaking weekly reconciliation of all daily Universal Credit (UC) receipts from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), highlighting any discrepancies
- Supporting timely allocation of suspense transactions, refunds, allocation of property sale completion monies and deposits and completion of the quarterly schedule for the Treasury team to make payments to Prudential lenders
- Validating rents set by the rent accounting team for in-year relets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with rent standard regulations of the regulator of social housing (RSH)
- Managing and mentoring a direct report, promoting accountability and high performance
- Part or fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) or equivalent experience
- Strong experience in rent accounting, income management, and reconciliations, from within a regulated environment
- Knowledge of rent setting processes for various tenures in accordance with the Rent Standard
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel - intermediate to advanced)
- Strong communication skills and ability to form effective working relationships
- Experience working with internal and external audits
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear reports and communications
- Strong experience in bank and control account reconciliations
