What is the opportunity?

The Risk Management Department at Mizuho EMEA is responsible for delivering an independent assessment of the risks taken across all the business activities of Mizuho EMEA, and the revenue generated in relation to these risks. It is also responsible for implementing a risk management framework consistent with the risk appetite and capacity of resources, in agreement with the EMEA CIB strategy and senior stakeholders of Mizuho Group. The department is led by the Chief Risk Officer and is made up of the following teams:

  • Regulatory & Liquidity Risk Management
  • Quantitative Risk
  • Stress Testing

What will you be doing?

  • Provide expertise on a wide range of internal risk methodology in the context of, for example, Market risk, Counterparty credit risk measurements and stress testing for ICAAP and regulatory expectations such as climate related stress.
  • Working closely with Market Risk and Credit Risk managers and collaborating with them. Also, liaise closely with other Risk functions, FO and Finance teams to ensure that models used for financial and regulatory reporting are aligned with the regulatory requirements, the firm's overall risk framework and the industry best practice.
  • Act as a first line of defence to ensure the models are adequate to capture all material risks and own the model performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to the development of risk systems, working together with Risk IT.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with middle to senior level staff internally.
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders and colleagues on the development and coordination of risk methodology and stress testing.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant risk regulations and an awareness of broader banking regulations, market trends, competitor activity and products/services.
  • Ensure overall conduct complies with that expected under UK and Japanese regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant compliance policies, including but not limited to anti-money laundering and personal account dealing policies.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Graduate in a numerate discipline or equivalent experience with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Experience of working as a risk quant at a bank focused on methodology development and strategic risk projects.
  • Good understanding of pricing Interest Rate and Credit Products: Bonds (including Inflation Bonds, Callable and Convertible bonds), Securitised Products like CLOs, Interest Rate Futures, Interest Rate Swaps, Inflation Swaps, Swaps, XCcy Swaps, CDS, CDS Indices, Swaptions etc.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Market Risk calculation methodologies for VaR, Stressed VaR, Risk Not in VaR, Specific Risk etc and new market risk capital regulations like FRTB.
    • Counterparty Risk Calculation Methodologies for PFE, EPE, EAD etc.
  • Flexibility and agility to contribute to a broad range of banking risk engagements.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task effectively, with a practical solutions-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Collaborative nature to contribute to a successful team performance.
