On behalf of Zurich, AMS are looking for a Risk and Controls Manager for a 9 Month contract based in Swindon (1-2 days per week on site).

In the UK, Zurich provide a suite of general insurance products covering business, casualty, motor, property and travel insurance, life insurance and pensions products to individuals and corporate customers. We employ over 4,500 people in the UK and are based across a number of locations with our head office being in Swindon.

Purpose of the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk and Controls Manager to lead the design and implementation of a new operating model as we transition key outsourced activities in-house. This role will focus on developing a robust risk and controls framework, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory standards, and managing complex, multi-disciplinary stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in second-line risk functions and large-scale Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) transitions.

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Operating Model Design: Develop and implement a new risk and controls framework to support the transition of outsourced activities in-house.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to UK regulatory requirements, particularly PRA SS 2/21 - Outsourcing and Third Party Risk Management.
  • Risk & Controls Framework: Design and embed a robust governance and control structure to support operational resilience.
  • Transition Management: Oversee the transition process, identifying and mitigating key risks associated with bringing outsourced functions in-house.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead multi-disciplinary engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, risk teams, and third-party providers.
  • Second-Line Oversight: Provide independent challenge and oversight to ensure risk management and control effectiveness in the new operating model.
  • Communication & Reporting: Deliver clear, concise reports to senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies on risk exposure and mitigation strategies.

What we require from the Candidate:

  • Strong experience in risk and controls functions, particularly within a second-line role.
  • Proven expertise in large-scale Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) transitions and operational risk management.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks, including PRA SS 2/21.
  • Ability to design and implement risk and controls frameworks for in-house operations.
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder engagements in complex environments.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, particularly with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to navigate regulatory and operational challenges.
