Job overviewThe dynamic Physiotherapy department at Kings College Hospital is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join the rotation of Band 6 physiotherapists specialising in respiratory care across inpatient and community settings.
The rotations are 8 monthly and are in the following areas:
- Critical Care (organized over 6 separate units) each with its own specialty bias including Liver, Major Trauma and Neurosurgery
- Medicine and Non-Invasive Ventilation
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Pulmonary Rehab and Community Integrated Respiratory service including admission avoidance and home care
Kings College Hospital is a specialist tertiary referral centre for liver disease, neurosurgery, cardio-thoracics, cystic fibrosis, haematology and major trauma. The Trust has recently opened a new 60 bedded critical care unit allowing the successful candidate a chance to work in an innovatively designed, state of the art critical care unit.
The in-patient respiratory team is split into 3 teams, each with their own Clinical Leads Physiotherapists. The teams are Critical Care, Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis. The community services also have their own Clinical Leads and there is a Consultant Respiratory Physiotherapist in Respiratory medicine.
There is a strong drive to participate in research at Kings and the Respiratory team regularly submit posters and publications at national and international level.
Continuing professional development is encouraged through the appraisal system and there is a well-established in-service education programme. Attendance at post registration courses is supported and there are comprehensive library and computer facilities on site.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesTo ensure a high standard, efficient and effective physiotherapy assessment treatment and intervention for all patients. To prioritise, assess, treat and manage own caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including the maintenance of comprehensive records. To work as an effective team member, communicating appropriately with patients, carers and other team members as required. To teach and develop junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants within the respiratory teams. To undertake an evidence-based project throughout each rotation to further the clinical practice of self and the team, and to enhance patient care. To take part in weekends and the on-call rota.
Applicants should have HCPC registration and be able to demonstrate post graduate respiratory experience.
Person specification Education & Qualification- Degree or other recognized qualification in physiotherapy
- HCPC registration
- Wide ranging post-graduate clinical experience, including neurology, rehab and musculoskeletal conditions
- Extended experience in respiratory including medical, surgical, HDU and ITU
- Evidence of relevant post graduate learning including reflective practice and courses attended e.g. CPD portfolio
- Experience of handling critically ill patients
- Supervisory experience
- Research experience
- Extended experience in respiratory including medical, surgical, HDU and ITU
- Familiar with resuscitation techniques
- Experience of handling critically ill patients
