Job Description
Park Lane Surgery has an opportunity for a 5 session GP. Join our friendly, forward thinking practice team providing a high quality service to our 9,708 patients. We are a PMS practice located in Macclesfield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated doctor with a strong commitment to good patient care and an ability to work as part of a well organised and supportive practice team. You will benefit from regular training opportunities and clinicians' meetings to provide peer support and to share best practice

Main duties of the job The post-holder's duties will include, but are not limited to:

Face to face and telephone consultations & queries, home visits, checking/signing repeat prescriptions & dealing with queries, paperwork & correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling & health education

Referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear & contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes & contributing to the practice audit programme as required

Compiling & issuing computer-generated acute & repeat prescriptions in accordance with the accepted prescribing formulary

Undertake all the normal duties & responsibilities of a GP subject to contractual variation

About us Park Lane Surgery is a PMS practice located in Waters Green Medical Centre in Macclesfield.

Competitive salary including NHS pension, 6 weeks' annual leave plus study leave

Full complement of allied health professionals including a nurse clinician, practice nurses, HCA together with an expanding complement of ARRs staff including clinical pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, care co-ordinator, MSK first contact practitioner.

Dr first triage in place, low number of home visits, flexible appointment times.

The practice looks after two local care homes.

Job responsibilities The post-holder will practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various policies and procedures of the practice including, but not limited to:

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the job plan, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including, but not limited to, surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, video consultations, visiting patients at home, late finish rota, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the practice or external organisations/services

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Contributing to QOF, Primary Care Network and enhanced service requirements and recording data appropriately

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health related illnesses

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting patients to hospital/external services or departments, also referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes and contributing in the practice audit programme as required

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with accepted prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

Take responsibility for some aspects of the clinical work within the practice team, for example; co-ordinating aspects of governance, QOF, PCN work, enhanced services, CPD and keeping clinical protocols up to date

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care, as set out by RCGP, GMC, all other royal colleges and councils applicable to the staff within the practice, DoH, ICB and all other regulatory and standard setting organisations.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Contribute to individual case discussions at clinical meetings and bring examples of cases for group discussion

Contributing to evaluation/audit within the practice

Attend training meetings/events organised by the practice

Attending team meetings and other meetings as may be necessary

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the business of the practice. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and GPDR

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met, the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, with such training to include:

Operate safe and effective medicines management, which conforms to NICE guidance and DoH directives, good prescribing practice as defined by BNF guidance from Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain on safe and secure handling of medicine, controlled drug legislation, shared protocols agreed between ICB and other NHS providers, locally specified patient group directions

Operate safe management and regular review of all patients receiving repeat prescriptions

Contribute to the practice teams approach which ensures referrals are made for patients to see other medical service providers, ensuring adequate information is given to personnel to whom the patient has been referred, for proper assessment to be made

Be supportive of the practice complaints policy and procedure to ensure proper investigation and appropriate follow-up action (in the event of a complaint being received about any aspect of the service provided or any personal provider of the service).

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of GP training/MRCGP
  • Be fully registered with the GMC and be on the performer's list of NHSE
  • Sound clinical knowledge and judgement
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure using own initiative
  • Commitment to providing consistent high quality care
  • Hold current valid UK driving licence
  • Knowledge of EMIS
