A Snapshot of Your Day

As an HMI Engineer for HVDC Projects, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to craft and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors, utilizing a new transient network analysis laboratory in Manchester.

You will support the existing AC control and protection team in delivering HVAC wind farm grid connection solutions both in the UK and internationally.

You will collaborate with the Engineering Manager - SCADA and Communications, providing engineering work packages aligned with project and business objectives.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Design and develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems for HVDC control & protection, serving as the central interface for operation and monitoring.
• Create and maintain project-specific technical specifications, documents, and manuals.
• Clarify concepts and functions with internal departments and external customers.
• Configure HMI systems, visualizing plant items, operating states, and parameters on screens.
• Design centralized signal reporting systems, including alarm and event recording.
• Integrate and commission the HMI in the Manchester test laboratory, verifying communication accuracy between components.
• Support factory acceptance tests with suppliers and customers.
• Provide technical support during commissioning and warranty phases.

What You Bring

• University degree in electrical engineering or automation technology, with significant professional experience.
• Experience with SCADA systems for control and energy transmission.
• Familiarity with IEC61850 standards for substation control and data exchange.
• Configuration experience with HMI systems like WinCC OA, Zenon (SICAM230), and Simatic WinCC.
• Knowledge of energy automation protocols (IEC101, IEC104, OPC, DNP) and communication structures.
• Experience in project engineering, customer communication, and teamwork in complex environments.
• Strong understanding of high voltage and substation technology, including interlocking schemes and automated control sequences.
