Screening Associate Scientist
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented lab-based Associate Scientist to join our Screening Department. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to support the discovery and development of new drugs through high-throughput screening and other screening methodologies. This role sits in the Discovery Biology and Screening (DBS) department, part of a larger Research Technologies platform organisation forming the foundation for GSKs medicine discovery.
This role is based at our GSK site in Stevenage and is an on-site, lab-based position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform screening assays to identify potential drug candidates.
- Design, execute, and interpret mechanistic experiments to support drug discovery projects.
- Develop, optimize, and validate screening assays using various techniques such as biochemical assays and cell-based assays.
- Analyse and interpret screening data, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility. As well as maintaining accurate and detailed laboratory records and documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including medicinal chemistry, program teams, and data scientists to advance screening projects.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including automated liquid handlers, plate readers, and other relevant instrumentation.
- Present research findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Adhere to all safety and compliance regulations and ensure a safe working environment.
Why You?
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent industrial drug discovery experience.
- Proven relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
- Experience with screening and assay development with proven attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as cell culture, enzyme assays, and other plate-based screening methods.
- Experience with data analysis and curve fitting software (e.g. Spotfire, GraphPad Prism).
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities as well as effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:
- Experience in designing mechanism of action studies and/or target validation.
- Strong knowledge of and/or experience in multiple molecular and cellular biology techniques, including Imaging, Mass Spectrometry, and flow cytometry.
- Strong knowledge and/or experience with different molecular modalities, such as small molecules, ADCs, PROTACs and oligonucleotides.
- An understanding of Digital Fluency and how it applies to drug discovery.
