King's College Hospital has an exciting opportunity to join their Security Department. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead one of our four Operational Security Teams. The successful candidate will be looking at developing their existing supervisory skills and will be expected to proactively contribute, sometimes in a very demanding environment. We have one Security Shift Leader post available, to work a 24/7 shift pattern which attracts a salary of between £37,461 - £45,603 dependent on experience and abilities. Plus Inner London HCAS of 20%.

You should ideally have experience of working in a supervisory capacity and in a security type role, with an understanding of CCTV, access control and various alarm systems, etc. You must be physically fit with good communication skills, along with the personality and experience to relate to people in all situations. You will be expected to exercise control and restraint techniques, for which full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To manage the daily operations of the King's College Hospital Security Team, ensuring they provide a high profile, visible uniformed presence to the general public and the hospital's patients & staff thereby providing positive reassurance to all persons.

Fulfilling all duties and ensuring the team perform to agreed standards in accordance with the Trust's policies and to be primarily employed on the Denmark Hill campus working a twenty-four hour shift based roster.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

People Management and Performance

  1. Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
  2. Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
  3. Ensure the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
  4. Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated and productivity is kept to the highest possible level.
Person specification Knowledge and Skills
  • Have the mental ability and confidence to make effective decisions whilst working in pressured, stressful and difficult situations.
  • To be able to write & maintain accurate records.
  • To be self-motivated and have the ability to manage your own daily activity and to meet deadlines using your initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and empathy skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be flexible.
  • To be physically fit in order to respond to emergencies and to be able to operate a range of security equipment when necessary.
  • Familiar with or willing to undertake training in CCTV operation, intruder alarm systems, radio communication skills, basic PC skills and other skills deemed necessary to be effective in the role of Security Shift Leader.
  • Experience of working in a large organisation.
  • Experience of managing a team in a security role.
  • Proficient in ICT Windows packages.
  • Knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984.
