Principal Consultant - Senior Legal BD, Marketing & Communications Recruitment

Our client is an international law firm dedicated to delivering high-quality, multi-faceted, value-driven legal services. Combining local insight with global resources, they offer innovative solutions tailored to the needs of clients across various industries and jurisdictions. The firm is now entering an exciting new phase in its development with ambitious plans for further rapid international growth.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager ready to step up to a senior role. This new position will operate across the UK firm, working closely with Department and Sector Heads, alongside the wider partnership and marketing and Business Development team. Reporting to the BD & Marketing Director, you will play a crucial role in developing and growing new and existing business.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. BD Strategy: Develop a firmwide Business Development strategy encompassing practice groups, sectors, and markets, prioritizing areas of growth and opportunity.
  2. Collaborative Working: Work closely with the BD & Marketing Director to support the firm's growth plans and enhance the firm's brand in the market.
  3. Sales Mindset: Develop and deploy a new approach to winning work across the firm by engaging with partners and fee earners to embed new systems and processes.
  4. Opportunity Pipeline: Focus on strategic priority sectors and markets to develop a pipeline of high-value work from existing and new clients.
  5. Key Account Management: Implement account-based marketing programmes and be the in-house expert on Key Account Management.
  6. Client Feedback Programmes: Project manage the client feedback programme, driving insights directly into the client lifecycle and influencing firm strategy.
  7. Learning & Development: Conduct and contribute to training sessions on BD fundamentals, skills, and techniques to help lawyers deliver their own business plans.
  8. Bid Support: Lead and work closely with fee earners on high-priority pitches and bids.
  9. Team Leadership: Mentor and develop a BD Manager direct report and two Assistants, and support other marketing team members in their development.
  10. Stakeholder Engagement: Develop strong and lasting relationships across the firm, particularly with key stakeholder partners and leadership team members.
  11. Reporting & Analysis: Measure success and ROI to ensure maximum impact, with transparent reporting to the leadership team.

Attributes Required:

  1. Previous Business Development experience gained within a law firm or professional services environment.
  2. Skill for opportunity spotting, developing leads, and making introductions and connections.
  3. Excellent relationship-building skills with an ability to work fluidly across teams.
  4. Solid commercial understanding of the market and client challenges.
