The BHI provides secondary and tertiary cardiac services in a purpose-built environment. We have 3 cardiology wards, 5 dedicated catheterisation labs, a full range of imaging facilities and a full cardiac surgical programme. We provide congenital heart services for approximately 6 million people throughout the south-west of England with additional interventional services for south Wales.

We have 4 congenital cardiac surgeons, a further 8 paediatric cardiologists, 4 specialist ACHD nurses, an MDT coordinator and full admin support. The unit is closely linked with adult cardiac services and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This post is a nationally recognised post for subspecialty training in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). It is suitable for an existing specialty registrar who has completed ST3-ST5 cardiology training who wishes to specialize in the care of adult patients with congenital heart disease, or for an interested fellow with experience with cardiology care at registrar level and at least basic skills with echocardiography.
Main duties of the jobSkills in basic cardiac catheterisation are advantageous and in echocardiography are expected. Skills in transoesophageal echocardiography would be advantageous. There is a daily board round which rotates around the registrars and regular ward rounds.
The trainee would be expected to carry out 2-3 clinics a week under the supervision of a consultant cardiologist, seeing patients with a spectrum of ACHD pathologies.
