Job overview

The Homerton is an innovative and friendly Foundation Trust providing a wide range of services to the local community of Hackney and specialist services on a national level. We are looking for a senior clinical fellow to join us, commencing in March 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for a doctor with an interest in critical care to develop as a clinician. The post is designed to provide a wide range of critical care experience, including attending the follow-up clinic and working with various specialties to develop critical care services within the Trust.

Previous adult critical care experience and advanced airway skills are essential for the post holder. Full registration with the General Medical Council is required at the time of application. Possession of a higher qualification is desirable, though not essential.

Main duties of the job

This job description sets out the details and service conditions for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine, based at Homerton University Hospital.

This is an opportunity for a trainee or non-training grade doctor to gain additional critical care skills and develop their clinical decision-making. We support trainees looking for additional time prior to professional examinations or appropriately qualified applicants seeking experience working in the NHS.

Working for our organisation

The Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the main hospital for the London borough of Hackney and is attached to the St. Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry (part of University of London). The hospital has approximately 500 beds and provides a full range of acute services for the local populations and a range of specialist services including perinatal (level 3) NICU and high-risk obstetrics, bariatric and laparoscopic surgery, stroke, and neuro-rehabilitation.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 12 beds providing Level 3 support, and Level 2 (HDU) patients are also cared for there. The intensive care team operates a closed unit policy and provides input into all other areas of the hospital, particularly the Emergency Department. The case mix is varied and covers complex medical, post-surgical, and maternal critical care.
