Job summaryThe Senior Design Manager will be responsible for leading the Design team in relation to the assets requiring Stage 5 design development.
Key responsibilities- Leading the Design team including Design Managers and Design Assurance Coordinators.
- Management of all Design activities related to the shaft fit out including blockwork, fire-proofing, steelwork, doors, hatches, drainage, and architectural design of the shafts and headhouses.
- Liaison with various teams including design consultants, MEP, Engineering, Construction, QA, Commercial, Planning, and Cost control.
- Responsible for raising Non-Conformance Records (NCRs) and assisting with resolutions.
- Ensure adherence to relevant design and engineering plans and assurance plans.
- Demonstrate commitment to Health & Safety and Environmental Policies.
- Management and monitoring of Stage 5 design progress and reporting to the Design Lead, Senior Management, and the client.
- Management of the Stage 5 design including specialist designers and subcontractors.
- Ensure design accommodates maintenance and health, safety, and welfare during construction and in-use.
- Management of design change and implications assessment.
- Recording and mitigating design risks.
- Completion of constructability reviews.
- Identifying opportunities for optimization of project programme.
- Ensuring compliance with project processes and procedures.
- Review Technical Queries (TQs)/RFIs, FCDs, and NCRs as required.
- Management of Design integration and change control during construction.
- Promote best practices in safety management through risk assessment and CDM 2015 regulations.
- Fostering Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the Design teams.
- Educated to degree level or higher (preferably BEng or higher).
- Thorough knowledge of construction of shafts and headhouses with focus on fit-out and architectural elements.
- Experience of large complex projects with multi-discipline integration.
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
- Understanding and application of the CDM Regulations 2015.
- Experience in project-based design and management across all project stages.
- Strong understanding of Engineering Principles.
- Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Understanding of digital engineering in design and construction phases.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Tunnels & Shafts Delivery Unit - All Assets, Stage 5 DM, close-out of some Stage 4.
Overview of role and responsibilitiesLeading teams of 6 DM's, managing the day-to-day operations, focusing on fit-out including cladding, roofing systems, and MEP.
