Job Description: Senior Engineer - Operations
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer to oversee the management, maintenance, and development of waterway infrastructure within the Northern Region, based in Fermanagh. This role involves leading operational teams, coordinating maintenance and capital projects, and working with stakeholders to enhance recreational and commercial use of the waterways. The successful candidate will also play a key role in health and safety compliance, environmental management, and emergency response.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance and development of waterway infrastructure, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Manage and coordinate consultants, contractors, and internal teams for maintenance and construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and procurement processes.
- Liaise with user groups, event organizers, and local stakeholders to enhance waterway accessibility.
- Implement and enforce operational policies, including waterway byelaws.
- Supervise and develop operational staff, fostering a high-performance team culture.
- Support asset management and infrastructure investment planning.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, including flood risk management and funding opportunities.
- Participate in an emergency response team, including out-of-hours duties on a rota basis.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant post-qualification experience, including 2 years in an operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of civil/structural engineering, particularly in water-based construction and site supervision.
- Experience in project management, budget management, and procurement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and engineering design tools.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction and maintenance.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Full driving license and ability to travel as required.
- Experience in managing and developing teams.
