We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Engineer Validation and Verification - Civils to be involved in a game-changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.
Overview of the role
Senior Validation and Verification Engineers fulfil a key role in Rolls-Royce SMR's Systems Engineering approach to design, by leading the process of verifying that our power station design meets all its requirements. This is part of our strategy to offer a delivery-certain solution, using modern engineering tools and techniques to prove the design before starting construction.
Validation and Verification Engineers will be assigned areas/aspects of the power station, based on their expertise and experience. For Senior Validation and Verification Engineers, this typically involves complex, safety-critical or business-critical areas. They will be responsible for developing the verification strategy, outlining the activities and evidence required, by working closely with design leads and technical specialists from across the power station engineering team.
Senior Validation and Verification Engineers will lead the process of determining design compliance for their assigned areas, based on the Validation and Verification Evidence generated.
Throughout the verification lifecycle, a key part of the Senior Validation and Verification Engineer's role will be to coach other Verification Engineers, developing the team's overall capability and providing technical review of the team's outputs.
Key Results and Achievements:
- Development of validation and verification strategies within area of responsibility
- Acting as an intelligent customer in the Verification and Validation of the Plant and wider Rolls-Royce SMR business
- Support the Validation and Verification of the safety case
- Production of reports for regulatory bodies and the presentation and discussion of these reports with regulators
- Defining objectives/requirements for validation and verification activities within the strategy (e.g. Rig tests, analyses), and agreeing those with responsible parties
- Reviewing/auditing and collecting evidence of verification activities conducted both internally and externally
- Collating evidence and using it to assess compliance to requirements
- Managing technical interfaces between their own department and other functions within the business
Verification and Validation Experience:
Experience in verification and validation of new products, ideally in a safety-critical and highly-regulated industry. Experience within the nuclear industry is desirable, but we also consider experience with other forms of power generation, as well as process industry, oil & gas, etc.
This experience could include setting out the strategy/plan, verification activities, and exit criteria, conducting activities such as analysis and tests, or reviewing/auditing evidence from said activities.
Civil Engineering or similar related discipline:
Experience in one or more of the following is desirable:
- Design experience of steel and concrete structures such as buildings, retaining walls, foundations, or fuel pools, working to British Standards, Eurocodes, and American standards.
- Design experience with modular structures in steel and pre-cast concrete, involving high levels of integration with other disciplines.
- Experience in the nuclear industry or similar highly regulated industry, including the design of seismically-qualified structures.
- Experience executing testing, research, or development projects related to civil engineering.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, legislation, codes, and standards would be preferred.
Training and Qualification Requirements:
Degree Level or equivalent qualifications in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
Professional recognition through an appropriate professional body, or be working towards it, e.g. IC, IStructE, IMechE.
Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
