Job Description

On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, (Inside IR35) for a 12 month hybrid contract based 2 days per week in any UK Office.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.

The Role

We're recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to be part of our warm and collaborative End User Compute Services (EUCS) team. The EUCS Team design, deliver and support the core infrastructure and systems that enable End User Compute Services and line of business applications for over 100,000 Ministry of Justice users across over 800 locations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, supporting, and managing the technical infrastructure within a highly secure environment. Your expertise will encompass a diverse set of areas, including the management of Azure services, Intune device management, cloud computing, and networking. You will also be knowledgeable in Intune best practices and the implementation of Intune in a secure environment, ensuring seamless and efficient operations.

Here are the key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:

Person Specification

.Proficiency in hardware and software systems design and implementation, including expertise in Intune app packaging for seamless deployment and management.

.Azure and Cloud Concepts: Experience with Microsoft Azure, including core services, resource management, and monitoring. Equivalent experience in AWS or Google Cloud is also considered.

.Windows Server Management: Expertise in managing Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, and PKI infrastructure.

.Intune and Endpoint Management: Skilled in deploying, managing, and securing devices with Microsoft Intune, including app packaging, compliance policies, and troubleshooting.

.Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell and Python for automation; familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform is advantageous.

.Networking and Security: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, Firewalls, and security best practices, including endpoint encryption and multi-factor authentication.

.Problem-Solving: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in server performance, connectivity, and infrastructure.

.Disaster Recovery: Experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery planning.

.Monitoring and Optimization: Proficiency with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor to ensure system health and performance.

.Collaboration and Mentoring: Skilled at guiding junior engineers and fostering teamwork.

This role requires a proactive individual with strong technical expertise and the ability to deliver reliable, secure, and efficient infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities:

1.Intune Device Management:

.Support, manage, and troubleshoot Windows environments across client and server systems.

.Lead on Windows 11 client migrations and oversee Intune policies for device security, application deployment, and compliance, adhering to NCSC and Microsoft best practices.

.Collaborate with first- and second-line teams to resolve endpoint issues promptly, ensuring seamless management and service delivery.

.Package and troubleshoot application deployments through Intune.

2. Infrastructure Management

.Configure, maintain, and optimize Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DHCP, RDS Farms and DNS.

.Manage PKI infrastructure for secure communication and authentication, including certificate management and renewal.

.Diagnose and resolve complex server issues related to connectivity, performance, and application compatibility.

3. Networking

.Collaborate with third-line teams and vendors to support and troubleshoot network issues, implementing changes where needed.

4. Security and Compliance

.Implement security measures like multi-factor authentication, endpoint encryption, and secure access controls.

.Address vulnerabilities using tools like Windows Defender, ensuring alignment with NCSC and regulatory frameworks.

.Develop robust threat detection, data loss prevention, and vulnerability monitoring strategies.

5. Collaboration and Mentoring

.Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering professional growth through hands-on training and constructive feedback.

6. Cloud Integration and Management

.Manage hybrid infrastructure solutions, ensuring seamless integration between on-premises and cloud resources, with a focus on Azure services.

.Implement cloud security measures and optimize the use of resources like Azure AD, Virtual Machines, and backup solutions.

7. Automation and Optimization

.Leverage Scripting and IaC tools (eg, PowerShell, Terraform) to automate processes and improve infrastructure reliability.

.Continuously assess and refine operational processes to enhance efficiency.

8. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

.Design, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

.Manage backup systems to ensure data restoration and continuity in critical scenarios.

9. Monitoring and Performance Management

.Deploy monitoring tools (eg, Azure Monitor) to oversee system health and performance.

.Conduct regular performance reviews and capacity planning to meet organisational needs.

10. Documentation and Reporting

.Maintain comprehensive documentation for system architecture, configurations, and processes.

.Provide regular reports on system performance, compliance, and incident resolution to stakeholders.
