Job Description

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our national Intelligent Mobility (IM) team and our team in the West to support the delivery of an expanding project portfolio across the UK and internationally. This role will work to support, at a senior level, the provision of technical advice and design services to deliver technology solutions for transport systems that balance the needs of the economy, the environment and society. The role includes assurance of quality and governance through proactive involvement in projects, leading their technical delivery and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to deliver quality outputs for our clients.

Transport networks are increasingly data rich and technology enabled. Our clients are deploying technology solutions to better manage their networks, improve safety and environmental impacts and better inform travellers. We work with them to advise on all aspects of transport technology systems, from strategy and business through to design and operation. Key areas of focus are systems & operations, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), signalling and urban traffic control, mobility pricing, smart ticketing, traffic control centres, and Connected & Autonomous Vehicles. The position will involve collaborating with team members to design, specify, and develop innovative solutions within agreed timescales and budgets. Responsibilities will include technical delivery, data analysis, report writing, and contributing to business development.

Is this role right for you?

As an experienced member of our team, you will provide technical support for existing IM business clients through project delivery, leading and ensuring the delivery of projects within agreed timescales and budgets. This will include enhancing Arup's profile with key clients, including the Department for Transport (DfT), National Highways, international clients, and private-sector clients. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and bids across business areas and within the wider Arup network, including international opportunities. You will also ensure all designs and documentation meet the highest professional standards. As a senior member of the team you will perform a variety of roles including strategic advice and technical consultancy, working with the IM leader in the West to develop and implement a work winning plan to create a case for team growth in the region.

Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience.
  • A background in project management in systems and technology deployment.
  • Able to apply a systems thinking approach to design and delivery.
  • Ability to understand complex issues and capture client requirements.
  • Experience in supporting bidding and business development activities.
