Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Freelance

IC Resources is working with a global leader in the aerospace and defence industry who is looking for a Freelance Mechanical Designer to join their team for one of their upcoming projects.

The Role

• 6 month contract with likely extension
• 1-2 days a week onsite
• Inside IR35

• Lead mechanical detail design for Electro-Optic and RF products, ensuring compliance with engineering standards throughout the product lifecycle.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and customers across the UK to develop innovative mechanical solutions.
• Perform detailed mechanical engineering tasks, including numerical calculations, tolerance analysis, and GD&T application per BS8888 standards.
• Produce manufacturing data packs and support product development from concept to production.
• Assist in resolving technical issues and contribute to design reviews aligned with industry standards.
• Participate in hands-on development activities, including Design of Experiments and prototype builds.
• Support work package delivery to meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives in a hybrid working environment based in Basildon.
