Senior Sister/Charge Nurse (XR07)

We have the opportunity to recruit a substantive Band 7 registered nurse to lead and manage the discharge lounge at St. James's University Hospital. The post is aligned to the Corporate Operations CSU and will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to be involved in supporting capacity and flow through emergency and planned care pathways by releasing inpatient bed capacity at the earliest opportunity. Your support will be pivotal to the ongoing development and success of the discharge lounge, using continual improvement methods. As such we are looking for someone to bring energy, enthusiasm and ideas to the job, who is also patient and staff centred.

Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the role include providing the daily discharge lounge service, working alongside wards and departments to identify patients who are suitable to move to the discharge lounge and ensuring the patients' stay is safe and satisfactory. Communication with a wide number of groups/individuals both internally and externally is required. The team comprises both registered and non-registered staff, who should be developed to provide high-quality patient care. The individual will need to provide professional, pastoral and clinical management and leadership. They will need to provide assurance that patient care and the environment are maintained to a high standard. This will require them to have skills and experience in providing direct patient care and being able to respond to a patient who may deteriorate unexpectedly. They will also manage the finances for the department. Finally, we are looking for an individual who will be a role model to staff and represent the Trust's ethos and standards at all times.

Leadership- Support Lead Nurse in providing leadership to the clinical team
- Support and inspire staff to provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients
- Deliver a positive patient experience
- Promote the building of effective teams and collaboration between teams
- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code: Professional Standards Practice and Behaviour (March, 2015)
- Fulfil the requirements as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to maintain and revalidate registration
- Supervise ward staff with regards to clinical practice and patient experience to promote the delivery of excellent clinical standards
- Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high-quality compassionate care as an expert practitioner
- Has a responsibility to improve the quality and safety of our services. It is expected that in fulfilling a clinical leadership role you will be proactive in promoting and using the Leeds Improvement Method. Contribute to quality improvement programmes as required
- Help to ensure all nursing staff maintain mandatory and priority training requirements.
- Support and facilitate re-validation for registered nursing staff, and self.
- Promote a learning and development culture to improve staff skills, knowledge and competence
- Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues
- Understands the business of the ward
- Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children's areas (Level 1 or 2)
