Job Description

Job Title: Technical Service Engineer
Salary: £35,000 - £38,000
Location: Cambridge
Overtime: Paid after 38 hours (Time & a half)
On-Target Earnings (OTE): £50,000

Due to continued growth and expansion, they are seeking a skilled Technical Service Engineer to join their expert team and contribute to their reputation for excellence.

The Role:

As a Technical Service Engineer, you will play a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of advanced packaging automation machinery. You will be responsible for ensuring that equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime, and delivering first-class customer service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Electrical Expertise: Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics with ease.
  • Machine Wiring: Connecting and wiring control panels, including 240V and 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Commissioning & Servicing: Handling the commissioning, breakdowns, service, installation, and planned preventive maintenance (PPM) of machinery.
  • HMI & IO Cards: Working with inputs/outputs and making adjustments to IO cards.
  • Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilizing your problem-solving skills to diagnose, repair, and optimize machine performance.
  • Field-Based Travel: Covering a large geographical area with a company vehicle provided.
  • Proactive Approach: Taking initiative as a technical expert, ensuring customer satisfaction and machine efficiency.
  • Overtime Availability: Willingness to work additional hours when required, with generous overtime pay.

Qualifications & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • City & Guilds qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or extensive hands-on experience in a similar field.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and schematics.
  • Experience working with packaging, inspection, or automation equipment (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical faults efficiently.
  • Willingness to travel as part of the role with minimal nights away.
  • A proactive, self-motivated attitude with excellent customer service skills.
