Job overviewThe Band 5 post holder is required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team towards the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and contribute to and maintain excellent standards of patient care and clinical practice.
One of the principal roles of this position is to ensure that sleep diagnostic data is accurately collected, recorded, analysed, and saved; therefore, excellent IT skills are essential. It also involves daily face-to-face interaction with patients to deliver education and instruction and requires excellent communication and reporting skills.
The post holder will work as part of the wider team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the service and will be supported by the senior members of the team. In-house and external training is offered as part of this role. Some home working is available as part of this role.
- You will set up, perform and (with training) interpret any of the sleep investigation studies used within the department, including any calibration and system checks necessary adhering to standard operating procedures.
- You will download and store patient data from all sleep equipment and devices in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- You will deliver education, instruction and support to patients attending the home sleep study and inpatient sleep study.
- You will commence patients on sleep therapies including CPAP, according to departmental policy and procedure and to be able to competently evaluate patient progress and identify any changes or interventions necessary.
- You will participate and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings.
- You will assist, advise and support all members of the MDT within the parameters of your experience.
- You will maintain levels of stock within the department.

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications- Degree in a scientific subject or
- A professional qualification in a related field such as nursing or physiotherapy, healthcare science
- A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
- Experience of clinical contact with patients and/or the public.
- Previous experience of sleep investigations and interventions such as PSG, CPAP, Oximetry.
- Experience of performing physiological measurements on the paediatric population.
- Experience of delivering education or instruction to individuals and/or groups.
- Strong IT skills including significant experience of Word and Excel.
- Good knowledge of sleep disorders and interventions.
- Qualifications in IT programs such as Word or Excel.
- Knowledge of UCLH systems (EPIC).
- Evidence of study days within speciality.
- Evidence of working well as a team and individually.
- Poster presentation or general presentation at scientific conferences.
