As a Software Engineer for our Consumer Relationship Platforms, you'll design and develop software features or services that are vital in our mission to help Britain prosper. You'll be curious about technology, understanding how things work and will influence positively to solve customer problems using technology and Engineering practices. You'll work with the product and engineering leads to achieve the vision and customer outcomes for your Lab, through writing well-factored and tested code and building efficient and reusable back-end systems and abstractions. You'll lead, direct and shape approaches to solving technical challenges and translate business requirements into technical solutions.

What you'll need:

  • Extensive professional experience in Java development, with a strong track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining Java applications.
  • Deep understanding of Java (preferably Java 17+) and familiarity with modern frameworks (i.e., Spring Boot/Hibernate/JPA).
  • Strong experience in designing and consuming RESTful APIs (experience with gRPC and/or SOAP is a plus).
  • Solid knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms.
  • Solid knowledge of Object-Oriented Design principles, Design Patterns, and Clean Code practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Relational Databases (i.e., PostgreSQL/Oracle/MySQL), including writing and optimizing SQL queries.
  • Knowledge of Unit Testing, TDD/BDD, Integration Testing, and test automation tools (i.e., JUnit/Mockito/Cucumber).
  • Proven ability to work in Agile/Scrum environments, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Version Control Systems, and modern software development practices.

And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Familiarity with Containerization and Container Orchestration tools (i.e., Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms (i.e., AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Message Brokers (i.e., Kafka/RabbitMQ/IBM MQ).
  • Understanding of DevOps principles and infrastructure as code tools (i.e., Terraform).
  • Background in performance tuning, profiling, and monitoring Java applications.
  • Solid experience with Observability and Monitoring tools (i.e., Splunk/Dynatrace).
  • Experience mentoring junior developers or leading small engineering teams.
