Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated band 7 pharmacist to join our team at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You should have hospital pharmacy experience. Previous ophthalmic and high-cost medicines therapies pharmacy experience is not required; however, a solid background in clinical pharmacy and experience in managing staff would be desirable.

The successful candidate could be funded to do the pharmacy independent prescribing course.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:
• Support the Senior Pharmacists in the delivery and development of high-cost medicines therapies, clinical Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation services across the division.
• Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice on the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines.
• Undertake regular audit to monitor and promote adherence to local and national guidance.
• Support and develop Trainee Pharmacists, Band 6 Pharmacists and other Pharmacy staff as appropriate.
• Work with the Associate Chief Pharmacists, Lead Pharmacists, Nursing and Clinical Leads and relevant Pharmacy Leads on service developments and improvements.
• Manage the operational running of the Pharmacy services and high-cost medicines therapies across Moorfields South ensuring that the network site pharmacies are adequately staffed.

Person specification Education / Qualification
  • Taught Masters Degree in Pharmacy (4 years) or equivalent
  • 1 year pre-registration training
  • Member of The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post graduate diploma/MSc in pharmacy practice or equivalent
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
Experience
  • Previous experience of providing a specialised clinical pharmacy service
  • Previous experience in supervising and managing pharmacy staff
  • Clinical Audit experience
  • Good understanding of admission & discharge processes in hospital
  • Ophthalmology pharmacy experience
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates good general pharmaceutical & clinical knowledge
  • Understanding of medicines Optimisation
  • Awareness of current issues affecting Pharmacy Procurement and medicines supply issues including within High-Cost Therapies and Homecare Services
  • Understanding of complex medicine use and issues across the interface
  • Clinical Ophthalmology

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - able to communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients and relatives
