Speciality Doctor in Rheumatology

UHDB is seeking to recruit a Speciality Doctor in Rheumatology to join the well-established team. The department's work involves the assessment, follow-up, and monitoring of patients with inflammatory arthritis, CTD, metabolic bone diseases, and osteoarthritis.

The QHB site has 2.6 WTE consultants providing service from the main site and also the community. This site is also supported by registrars and Clinical Nurse Specialists, specialist physiotherapy, and OT. Joint and soft tissue injections as well as medical infusions are carried out on site.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be responsible for:

1. Providing a comprehensive service alongside consultant colleagues for diagnosis & treatment of patients referred to rheumatology.
2. Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients.
3. Active participation in undergraduate & postgraduate education.
4. Provision of cover for middle-grade colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients.
5. Participate in clinical audit.
6. Commitment to taking part in the annual appraisal process.
7. Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements.
8. Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines.
9. Exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited periods within the specified geographical area or undertake duties at other hospitals in the event of a major disaster or incident.

Person Specification Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at date of commencement
• MRCP or equivalent higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty

Clinical Experience

• Experience in rheumatology at junior doctor level
• Experience in acute medicine
• Experience in rheumatology at registrar level

Management and Administrative Experience

• Commitment to Continuing Professional Development & the requirements of clinical governance.

Audit/Research Experience

• Experience of & commitment to clinical audit

Communication

• Experience of formal presentations
• Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT, sharing administration duties

Teaching Experience

• Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates
• Experience of supervising F1 & F2
• Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
