Job overview We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Speciality Doctor to join our newly opened General Adult Psychiatry Ward at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health in Brent.

The post holder will have a central role in providing medical input within the Team and will work closely with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team, in order to ensure that patients are provided with the highest standards of care. You will be supervised and supported by the substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the ward.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide clinical interventions for the patients managed by the team and to support members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide good service quality and performance with interfaces with home treatment team, psychiatric liaison team, community services, supported accommodation, A & E Liaison and the police.
  • Support training needs of psychiatry trainees, medical students and MDT team.
Working for our organisation Brent Mental Health Service has been operating as a multi-disciplinary, integrated service since 1st April 2001. The integrated service relates to Brent Adult Social Services department as well as to CNWL and currently includes all generic and specialist adult services such as forensic, inpatients, psychotherapy and residential services, including the following:
  • Acute in-patients (4 ward - 72 beds) - Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.
  • Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) - organised in three locality CMHT teams (Harness, Kilburn and Kingsbury & Willesden) serving the three primary care networks (PCNs) in the borough based at Park Royal and Fairfield House, Kinsbury.
  • Early Intervention Service based at 27-29 Fairlight Avenue, London.
  • Forensic and Intensive Care Services which include Tasman Ward (Forensic Low Secure-17 beds), Caspian Ward (PICU - 13 beds) and Java (Forensic Rehabilitation - 6 beds) - Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.
  • Home Treatment Team (HTT) - Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.
  • Psychology and Psychotherapy Services including Clinical Psychologists embedded in the CMHTs and inpatient unit, Arts Psychotherapy, and other specialist family and individual psychotherapies - Fairfield House, Kingsbury.
  • Range of rehabilitation services, supported tenancy schemes and residential care services located across the Borough.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities The postholder will be responsible for providing psychiatric care to people admitted to Pine Ward at Park Royal MHC working with the consultant and PAs as part of the multidisciplinary team.

The ethos of mental health service in Brent is one in which care is delivered by an integrated multi-disciplinary team with a shared sense of ownership of the clinical services provided and collaborative working.

The postholder will also be expected to participate in quality improvement and service evaluation projects and will be encouraged to undertake service evaluation and/or research which may be relevant to either short or long-term service improvement.

Together with the Matron, Ward Manager and other MDT colleagues the postholder will provide direct clinical assessments and consultations for the team, including the following:
  • Medical input for care planning and risk assessment people admitted to the unit.
  • The undertaking of duties and responsibilities including attending daily MDT ward reviews, Mental Health Tribunals, Managers hearings and report writing.
  • Regular clinical liaison with the community teams in the Psychological Medicine, Community Mental Health Teams and the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team to ensure timely discharge of patients.
  • Acting up the ward Consultant as appropriate.
Person specification Education and Qualifications
  • Primary Medical degree
  • Full GMC registration
  • Section 12 approval
Clinical Experience
  • Completed at least four years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Extensive experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders in older adults
  • Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds
  • Working with interpreters and translation services
