Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (Includes rotation to night duty.)

Job Overview

The Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit is the North West centre for Cardiopulmonary Transplantation, including the VAD (ventricular assist device) programme, and an established respiratory ECMO service. As a part of our heart failure service, we provide cardiac ECMO. The unit consists of a 26 bedded purpose-built Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit and a 5 bedded satellite Post Operative Recovery Unit, combining both level 3 and level 2 care.

Our team is committed to delivering the highest standards of care and encourages staff development with the support of our excellent practice education team.

Main Duties of the Job

We are a fast-paced 31 bedded critical care unit, caring for level 3 and level 2 patients who require critical care due to surgery, trauma, heart failure, and other reasons.

We offer excellent in-house training courses for new staff and continued staff development with various courses available.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Degree or Diploma
  • Degree level 6 study
  • Diploma
Experience
  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise and support junior staff
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability
  • Awareness of clinical audit
  • ICU experience is required for this role
  • Evidence undertaking a mentor/preceptor role
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current nursing issues
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
  • IT/Word Processing
Skills and Abilities
  • Well-developed organisational skills
  • Dexterity and accuracy in physical skills
