Job Description

A Japanese organisation is seeking a Japanese-speaking Investment Officer. The role will be responsible for the following tasks in order to support local companies (startup companies) with innovative technologies in their business development and establishment in Japan. A strong ability to communicate in Japanese (written & spoken) is essential in addition to completely fluent English. Additional experience of living in Japan and/or working in a Japanese corporate office, and/or knowledge of Japanese business culture would be beneficial.

TYPE: Temporary, full-time (Rolling contract)
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, 9:30 - 17:30 with 1 hour lunch break
SALARY: £17.50 per hour including holiday allowance (will increase from 3 months around £18.50 per hour)
START: from the beginning of May 2025 to the end of March 2026 (rolling over contract)
LOCATION: City of London (5 days office work)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES as Investment Officer:

  1. Identifying and approaching local start-up companies, especially in the fields of carbon neutrality and digital transformation, that are interested in expanding their business to Japan or collaborating with Japanese companies, arranging meetings, introducing their support services, taking minutes, following up, managing projects, and responding to enquiries from companies about entering the Japanese market.
  2. Liaison and coordination with Headquarters (Tokyo).
  3. Assist in building links with other relevant organisations to help identify UK companies interested in investing in Japan.
  4. Support for other tasks that need to be handled by the Invest Team.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  1. Solid skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Salesforce.
  2. Native level English and Japanese language for internal record, written and spoken.
  3. A good understanding of society, culture and business practices in the UK and are able to work in a way that builds trust with UK companies.
  4. Flexible, sociable and cooperative, with excellent language, communication and summarisation skills.
  5. Information-gathering and strong networking skills.
  6. Reliable person, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks during busy periods.
