Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioner

We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity for 2 Advanced Clinical Practitioners to join our General Surgery Department at Epsom and St Helier. You will need to be qualified and practising autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner. As these are new roles in the Trust and Division, you will be pivotal in the development of this post.
The post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families, and carers. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed scope of practice in both an emergency and elective setting.
Main duties of the job- Undertake both elective outpatient clinics as well as support the emergency surgery service.
- Assess individuals, families, and carers holistically using a range of different methods, such as physical assessment and history taking, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessments.
- Use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations and make diagnoses.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Decide on and carry out treatment, which may include the prescribing of medicines or referring patients to an appropriate specialist.
- Ensure the provision of continuity of care.
- Assess and evaluate with patients and/or carers the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training- Registered first level nurse / AHP
- Completed Master's Degree in Advanced Practice
- Non-medical independent prescribing for healthcare professionals
- Management of patients with acute medical illness
- In-depth knowledge in their specialist clinical field
- Demonstration of Leadership or management experience
- Compiling protocols and clinical guidelines
- Leadership in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
- Clinical leadership skills
- Communication of difficult messages to patients and families
- Negotiation and conflict management skills
- Teaching and mentorship in the clinical setting
- Passion and commitment to delivering high standards of care, ensuring delivery of the 6Cs at all times
- Ability to make informed and measured decisions in all circumstances
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities
