Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Phlebotomy Team in Surgery. This is a small and friendly team, who covers a 24 roster across the surgical wards. We are looking for a compassionate and professional individual, who may have experience of healthcare work. All of the necessary training for the role will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role includes a variety of shift patterns, including Early (06:30 - 14:30), Long Day (06:30 - 19:30), and Night (19:30 - 08:00).

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
  • Willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work as part of a team but also having the ability to work on their own.
  • Ability to cope with work pressures when working in high care areas when having difficulty in collecting blood samples from patients.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to complete all training packages including Venesection and cannulation course and ANTT course within 2 months.
  • Experience in providing healthcare.
  • Experience preferred but not essential, as full in-house training is given.
  • NVQ3, or willing to undertake NVQ training.
  • Basic Life Support training.
  • Previous clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Experience in Venesection in an acute setting.
  • Experience in hospital IT systems.
