System Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive System Engineer to manage and optimise our IT Cloud environment and endpoints. You'll focus on ensuring the seamless operation, security, and integration of key cloud platforms, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and endpoint management solutions Intune and Hexnode. You'll join us during a point of a reset as Gumtree becomes a standalone entity with its own IT Security and Operations team. You'll help us shape the future of our IT by leveraging your deep understanding of cloud environments, endpoint management (Windows 11 and MacOS), and security tools. This requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting, automation, and system optimization. Location: London Waterloo, hybrid working applies. Our IT Ops team operates on a rota basis. You'll be in the office a minimum of 3 days a week, flexing up to cover holidays where required.

About the role:

You'll join a newly established team and report directly to the Head of InfoSec and IT. Your key responsibilities include systems admin across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Slack environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user experience. You'll also be responsible for endpoint management using Microsoft Intune (Windows) and Hexnode (MacOS) for device enrolment, configuration, patching, and remote management across primarily MacOS. You'll monitor automated patching solutions ensuring that new vulnerabilities are remediated in line with security and risk policies. Additionally, you'll provide user training and support, respond to system incidents, and troubleshoot issues and breaches in a timely manner. Working under the wing of a newly joined Head of InfoSec, you'll also help to implement security policies, monitor compliance, and integrate security solutions within the cloud environment and endpoints.

What are we looking for?

• You'll have a solid background in System Engineering and Admin with a proven background in managing Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Intune, Hexnode, and other endpoint management/security tools.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture and endpoint management strategies.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Familiarity with security tools such as CrowdStrike, Rapid7, Mimecast, and Netskope.
• Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Azure Automation, etc.) to enhance operational efficiency.
• Understanding of ITIL or similar frameworks for IT service management.
• You'll be skilled in problem-solving and troubleshooting with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• You'll also be adaptable and flexible. As a small team, we comfortably navigate the day-to-day hands-on tasks alongside projects that help us build for the future.
