Working Pattern: Full time

Thermofluids engineering is responsible for design and analysis of gas turbine air, oil, fuel, and thermal management systems along with component through whole engine thermal analysis. This role in Defence Mature Programmes focuses on providing critically important support to ensure safe, continuous operation of our products for our customers, with applications including Adour, EJ200, RB199, Gem, Gnome, Viper, Spey, MTR390, MT30, Pegasus, TP400, MRTT and WR21.

As a Thermofluid Systems Engineer role is based in Rolls-Royce's Defence Mature Engines division in Bristol, you will be part of the wider programme focused on supporting our existing products and customers.

What you will be doing:
With this attractive opportunity you will support our customers through in support of safety investigations, in-service arisings, manufacturing defects, operational behaviour and product change to assess or predict product behaviour and ensure continued safe operation of our products, including the chance to:
- Perform detailed fluid flow analyses of gas turbine engine air, oil, and/or fuel systems, subsystems, and components using 1-D network analysis and occasional Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analyses in support of fluid flow and heat transfer understanding.
- Perform detailed thermo-mechanical analyses of gas turbine engine components, subsystems and/or whole engine temperatures and/or deflections using 1D, 2D and 3D Finite Element Analysis.
- Apply systems engineering concepts to define whole engine fluid systems and support resolution of system-level issues, including preparing and presenting the output of analysis or tests in formal and informal design reviews, and working together with other engineers in Thermofluids, Engine Performance, Controls, Installations, Turbines, Compressors, Combustion, and Power Transmission Systems.
- Support engine development testing through analysis or on-site test by planning, monitoring, inspection of instrumented hardware (pre and post-test), data reduction, and model validation.

To be successful in this role you will need the following experience and skills:
Basic: Degree/experience based on grade of role advertised
- Associate's Degree and 4+ years of experience or
- Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of experience or
- Master's Degree
- JD/PhD
- Experience with product requirements and risk processes
- Must be motivated to accept responsibility and accomplish results for the customer
- Highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for interfacing with multiple groups and will need to be able to communicate effectively in a team environment
- Must demonstrate creative thinking skills and sound judgement
Preferred:
- Experience in gas turbine secondary air system, oil system, fuel system or thermal management system design, modeling, and analysis.
- Experience in finite element-based heat transfer or thermo-mechanical analysis.
- Experience with Rolls-Royce Thermofluid Systems analysis tools (SPAN, SC03, AMESim, Simscape, Fluent, STAR-CCM+, and/or NPSS)
- Experience in gas turbine engine development / production / overhaul test analysis and troubleshooting.
To work for Rolls-Royce you may need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance for some roles. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, for some roles you must hold a UK nationality.
