Main duties of the job

We are seeking applications from individuals to undertake training to become a Clinical Perfusion Scientist. The successful applicant will undertake full in-service training incorporating practical experience under supervision and academic study monthly block release as part of the Post Graduate Perfusion Science MSc programme at University of Bristol necessary to achieve professional accreditation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities will include the setting up and control of the heart-lung bypass equipment, which provides life support for adults and paediatrics during cardiac surgery. You will work towards becoming a qualified and autonomous practitioner, able to deliver clinical and professional perfusion services to the multidisciplinary team.

What we're looking for
  • A relevant Honours Degree (minimum 2:1) will be required to be eligible to undertake the Perfusion Science MSc.
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to work in a team, adaptability to changing situations and the ability to work for long periods.
  • A recognised perfusion qualification and a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience in perfusion.

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience
  • Minimum 2.1 BSc equivalent in science or relevant subject
  • A recognised perfusion qualification and a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience in perfusion
  • A Perfusionist who has not practiced for 4 years or more
  • Demonstrate problem solving in various settings.
  • A broad range of perfusion experience
  • High level of organisational skills.
  • Effective information technology skills (Microsoft Office and perfusion systems)
  • Willingness to participate fully in the on-call rota during training
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to work unsociable hours and cover additional hours where required
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in stressful situations for prolonged periods.
  • Able to analyse continuous, multifactorial data streams for protracted periods
  • Full driving licence
