We are searching for a motivated individual to join us on a Degree Apprenticeship as a Trainee Laboratory Technician within our Analytical Team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your scientific technical skills working in an innovative and fast-growing Contract Research Organisation (CRO).

Your roleAs an Apprentice, you will work closely with our team of experienced scientists, learning how to perform tasks to support the running of the analytical lab, supported by theoretical learning. You will have the opportunity to support method development, validation, and dose formulation analysis by preparing mobile phase, calibrating and checking equipment, preparing workbooks, maintaining records, organizing and labeling consumables, and conducting basic High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) maintenance. You will be fully trained by our team to operate to high standards within a GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) accredited laboratory, and the work you do will ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the laboratory.
Specifically, you will:
- Carry out general laboratory tasks including, but not limited to, equipment calibration and maintenance, stock control of materials, compound receipt, environmental monitoring, preparation of mobile phase, standards, and samples.
- Take an active role in the performance and delivery of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method development, validation, and assays alongside more experienced team members.
- Learn what working to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) means and ensure you work to this standard daily.
- Conduct all work in accordance with documented standard operating procedures (SOP) and analytical methods.
- Highlight any issues with equipment and deviations from SOPs and analytical methods.
- Be responsible for record keeping, focusing on excellent attention to detail and accurate documentation.
- Conduct quality control (QC) checks of data and identify errors.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop technical skills and scientific theory relevant to the role.
Qualifications you will achieve as part of your Degree Apprenticeship:
- Level 6 Laboratory Scientist Degree Apprenticeship
- BSc (Hons) Chemical Science
Your studies will be a supervised programme of training provided as blended distance learning and residentials via Manchester Metropolitan University.
About youTo join us as a Trainee Technician in our Analytical Team, you will need:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9 - 4 including Maths and English
Plus any of the following:
- A minimum of 3 A levels (with one being Chemistry) or equivalent equating to a minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points
- Level 3 BTEC qualification Extended Diploma in a scientific discipline
- Level 4 Apprenticeship in a relevant subject
And also:
- An ability to demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of laboratory science and an enthusiasm to learn new practical skills in an industrial setting.
- Good communication skills, and a strong team player
- Excellent attention to detail with accurate written skills
Please note that prospective applicants must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship or in a similar subject.
