Job Description

As a small and growing charity, the role of Treasurer is a crucial one. We are currently looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees with experience in finance/accounting to oversee our budgets, providing advice, scrutiny and support to VFP.

Detailed responsibilities include:

  1. Provide advice and oversight to the CEO and Chair on financial matters
  2. Attendance at Board meetings (every 8 weeks, virtually including one in-person meeting per year)
  3. Review Independent Examiner's accounts for accuracy
  4. Prepare annual report to summarise key events and cash flow
  5. Additional commitment around Audit and reporting to the Board
  6. Ad-hoc support to the CEO on financial issues

Person Specification

  1. Qualified accountant (or in the process of becoming qualified) with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge
  2. Competent use of IT skills
  3. Good communication, leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the team
  4. Commitment to the aims and values of VFP
  5. An understanding of the needs of the Vietnamese community in London
  6. Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders
  7. Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement
  8. Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  9. Willingness to serve for an initial period of three years
  10. Understanding that VFP is a young charity with big ambitions but limited resources
  11. Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership
  12. Knowledge of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice)

Time Commitment

  1. Term: 3 Years
  2. Meetings: Every 8 weeks
  3. One full day Strategy session annually
  4. Papers: Up to an hour before each board meeting to prepare board papers (up to 2 hours in the first few months for initial set up)
