JOB TITLE: Treasury & Trading Assistant Market Risk Associate

SALARY: £63,711 - £70,790

LOCATION(S): London

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending a minimum of 3 days per week in the team's London office.

About this opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Treasury & Trading Market Risk team within the Risk Science Office. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team in a changing and challenging environment, which offers considerable scope for personal development. This team's main aim is to provide robust and informed challenge to the business in relation to market risks affecting the Group. This is a "consultancy style" market risk role with the opportunity for exposure to both trading and banking books.

Day to day, you will:

  • Act as a business liaison to help identify and understand the evolution of market risk including tracking issues and raising and closing of actions where appropriate.
  • Provide independent second line opinion on frontline proposals. This includes, but is not limited to; business proposals, new products, risk appetite, funding plans & issuance, balance sheet management activities and impact assessments of changes to market risk regulations.
  • Contribute to the revision, improvement and embedding of the market risk framework.
  • Develop & maintain a high level of sector knowledge. Be aware of changes in the economy which will affect our customers.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects, build effective relationships with key partners and provide a focus for expert guidance on all market risk issues.
  • Contribute to initiatives within Market Risk and a versatile approach and ability to respond to tight deadlines is needed to achieve this.

What you'll need:

  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to get key points across succinctly.
  • Enjoy problem solving, using your initiative and the challenge of a wide variety of work, across different portfolios, risk types and businesses.
  • The ability to adopt a risk mindset and consider how internal and external factors may impact the risk performance of our positions.
  • The confidence to ask difficult questions and constructively challenge the status quo.
  • A strong working knowledge of Excel and other MS applications.

And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • An understanding of derivatives - including their uses and pricing (e.g. interest rate swaps, options, futures, total return swaps, equity derivatives).
  • Knowledge of risk-related regulations, their application and impact on the banking industry.
  • Experience interacting with partners from across a wide range of business areas including Finance, Treasury, Risk, Audit, Retail and the Commercial Bank.
  • A working knowledge of Python (or other high-level language) and query languages (e.g. SQL, MDX).
