Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Triage Midwifery Manager, who has a passion for clinical excellence and the leadership to provide outstanding care.
Approximately 5,400 women annually birth with Mid Yorkshire. We offer antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services across the Wakefield District and North Kirklees. Birth options include:
- Home births
- Freestanding Birth Centre at Dewsbury District Hospital
- Alongside Birth Centre
- Consultant-Led Delivery Suite and Triage in Wakefield
- Antenatal clinic and Day Units on all 3 sites
The team is committed to collaborating with the Local Maternity Neonatal System, Maternity Voices Partnership, and community partners to provide excellence in maternity care.
The unit has successfully implemented the Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System, enabling midwives to prioritise care efficiently.
The managerial role is 0.6 WTE working office hours to ensure maximum daytime presence (Monday to Friday) and be part of the managerial on-call rota.

Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will provide professional leadership and operational management for the Triage department, ensuring its effective 24/7 operation while fostering a positive risk culture that prioritises the safety of women, families, and staff.
They will support strategic direction, drive continuous service improvement, align with clinical governance, and uphold excellence in midwifery practice in compliance with NMC and Department of Health standards.
They will collaborate with risk management teams and ensure the maintenance of a safe, high-quality environment through effective leadership, staff development, and data oversight.
The successful candidate will monitor professional practice within the clinical area in order to provide the highest standard of care, developing and strengthening Midwifery roles where appropriate.
Provide midwifery leadership, advice, and support to midwives employed within the Trust, and provide a clinical presence in the Triage department and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards.

Job responsibilitiesTo ensure the Triage department runs effectively and smoothly 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. To create an environment that ensures a positive risk culture that promotes the safety of women and their families.
To provide professional and managerial leadership, support, and direction for all staff employed within the Triage department.
To delegate lead roles to the core team and to be responsible for ensuring these roles are supported and carried out effectively.
To oversee continual improvement of the service in response to National directives in line with Clinical Governance principles and continuous quality improvements of patient care.
Contribute to strategic direction, business planning, project work, and commissioning of services.
To provide Midwifery leadership, advice, and support to all Midwives employed within the Trust, ensuring excellence in practice within the statute as promulgated by the NMC and Department of Health.
To work in partnership with the Trust Risk Management Team.
To maintain, manage, and develop a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors and adhere to the Trust Risk Management Policy.
To ensure accurate timely data is collected, by overseeing the databases, and staff training requirements for these.
Staff ManagementEnsure that the area has a robust training programme for staff and that Mandatory requirements are met.
Ensure all staff have an annual appraisal in line with Trust policy.
Participate in developing multidisciplinary/mandatory training sessions, and ensure trainers are available for these.
To actively manage attendance of all staff.
To actively participate in the recruitment and retention of staff promoting a dynamic working environment.
To teach, educate, and develop groups of staff to give support and professional advice and guidance on policy or service changes.
To meet with the patients and their families to give advice on professional issues.
To support and offer guidance to the multidisciplinary team involved in adverse health care events.
To ensure staff have valid registration documents PREP and remain professionally credible.
