Job overviewApplications are invited for Trust Doctor (CT1-2) posts in Emergency Medicine from August 2025 for 12 months. Earlier start dates may be accommodated. Posts are available at both St Richard's Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital, Worthing.
The post would be ideal for candidates who are interested in a career in Emergency Medicine and who wish to apply for an ACCS or IMT programme next year. The programme will provide broad coverage in line with the national curriculum and good training exposure.
These jobs are ideal for those wishing to take some time out of a formal training programme who want stability, training, supervision, a study budget as well as GMC revalidation but do not yet want to commit to a training programme.
Rostering is via gold standard annualised principles using Healthrota.
Main duties of the jobThe work is varied, and clinical work is based on the ED shop floor, where you will gain experience of working in all areas of the department including the resuscitation room and paediatrics. There is shop floor senior support at all times and this allows a wide range of clinical training experience. Shifts are busy, but well supported.
- Excellent care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and on the observation unit.
- Primary care of Emergency Medicine patients, treatment of trauma cases, major and minor cases referred by General Practitioners, the reduction of closed fractures, minor surgical procedures.
- Referral of patients to appropriate in-patient facilities as appropriate.
- Care of critically ill patients and resuscitation of patients in the Emergency Department.
- Participation in the full shift rota pattern with a 1:5.6 night and 1:3 weekend frequency. Appropriate paid time is allocated for educational activities.
- Involvement in Emergency Department multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Teaching and supervision of medical students and nursing staff and active participation in SHO tutorials.
- Active involvement in audit and the development of departmental policies.
- Internal cover is built into the rota for annual leave and sick leave.

Person specification Education and Qualifications- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
- Additional related qualifications, e.g. intercalated degree, BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent.
- Current or previous employment in a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or 12 months' experience after full GMC registration and evidence of achievement of foundation competencies.
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
- Experience in other related specialties.
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
- Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
- Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints.
- Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended.
- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.
