Job overview

The Maxillofacial Unit is a self-contained department with purpose-built facilities. It comprises a reception area, 6 single clinical rooms, a 4-chair polyclinic, and a minor procedure room. It has its own dedicated x-ray facility with intraoral, OPG, and Cone Beam CT. The department is moving towards being fully digital with a model scanner, an intra-oral scanner, facial scanner, and Dolphin software. There is a state-of-the-art Maxillofacial Laboratory situated on the floor above the clinical area.

All inpatient surgery is carried out at the William Harvey Hospital and patients are bedded on the dedicated Head and Neck ward (Rotary Ward) adjacent to the department. Day stay surgery is performed on the three main sites: William Harvey Hospital, Kent and Canterbury Hospital, and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mary Hospital, Margate. Outpatient clinics are carried out at the 3 sites above and at Buckland Hospital, Dover.

Main duties of the job

The main duties are located at the William Harvey Hospital. On occasions, the Trust doctor will be required to visit the Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury and the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate for day surgery and outpatient clinics.

Experience will include assisting and performing dento-alveolar surgery and assisting with salivary glands surgery, cancer surgery, free flap surgery, and orthognathic surgery.
