Job Description

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of UK's top teaching hospitals, in the rapidly growing North East of London where through a programme of unprecedented investment Britain's biggest hospital aims to improve services and most of the needs of our local population. We are currently seeking a motivated Trust Grade Doctor to work in our ENT Department. The post is for six months in the first instance with the view to further extend to 12 months.

Duties will involve day-to-day inpatient management under the direction of the Consultants and Specialist Registrars, having responsibilities for emergency and elective cases, assisting the Consultants and Specialists with inpatients and attendance at outpatient clinics.

The ENT service provides a comprehensive range of emergency and elective services to the local community in addition to acting as a referral centre for more complex procedures and tertiary referrals.

The service has excellent links with Audiology, Speech and Language therapy and Oncology. Advanced facilities and expertise are available including head and neck surgery, facial plastics and rhinology, voice clinics, paediatric airway and otology.

Applicants must have full GMC registration with a license to practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to participate in the clinical work in the department providing high standards of care for inpatients and outpatients. The trust doctor will be working as part of the team with a Consultant and Registrar and alongside the nursing staff and other allied health care providers. Duties involve:

  1. Care of Inpatients - Reviewing patients on wards
  2. Attending Theatre
  3. Reviewing patients in Accident and Emergency
  4. Support Outpatient Clinics
  5. Support Pre-admission Clinics
  6. Contribute to teaching, audit, and research.

The rota is 1.8 weeks with prospective internal cover for annual leave and study leave. The rota is European Working Time Directive Compliant.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS
  • MRCS Part 1 & 2 DOHNS
Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of ENT conditions and emergency management
  • Previous experience of managing ENT emergencies
Experience
  • Completion of FY1 and FY2 year
  • Previous ENT experience and experience in other surgical specialties
Management/Audit Experience
  • Less than two years experience in ENT
  • Previous participation in Audit Projects
Academic Achievements/Research/Publications
  • Research/Publications in ENT and related specialties
Personal Skills
  • Can communicate well in English
  • Good interpersonal skills
