Underwriting Manager- Household

A leading insurer is looking for an experienced Household Underwriting Manager to oversee and drive the profitable growth of their direct household portfolio. This role is pivotal in shaping the underwriting strategy, ensuring sustainable development across multiple distribution channels, and maintaining strong performance against key business objectives.

• Lead the underwriting strategy for the Household Insurance portfolio, working closely with internal teams to drive profitable growth.
• Collaborate with pricing, technical underwriting, and strategic underwriting teams to enhance underwriting standards and capabilities.
• Monitor portfolio performance, analyse data, and implement underwriting adjustments to optimise profitability and mitigate risk.
• Assess and refine underwriting rules, documentation, and risk appetite to support business objectives.
• Evaluate new product propositions, providing insight into potential profitability and underwriting adjustments.
• Manage, develop, and mentor a team of underwriters, ensuring strong performance, clear communication, and career growth.
• Influence strategic decision-making, ensuring that underwriting aligns with the wider business objectives.
• 5+ years' experience in a senior underwriting and/or pricing role within a personal lines Head Office environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of underwriting principles, policy wording, risk assessment, and pricing structures.
• Proven track record of portfolio management, with a deep understanding of underwriting performance drivers.
• Ability to balance technical underwriting expertise with commercial decision-making.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
