The role of a radiographer is to support the diagnostic imaging service and wider hospital by obtaining high quality diagnostic imaging studies across all modalities. The role will involve providing expert assistance and care for patients undergoing procedures, with the use of our Philips 1.5T MRI scanner, Siemens Somatom Go.All 64-slice CT scanner, digital x-ray machine, and Philips Zentition C-arm fluoroscopy.
It will be necessary to accept instructions from a variety of people including management, veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, and other radiographers. You will work enthusiastically within the team to help maintain a happy, efficient, and effective working environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe radiographer will work in direct alignment with the diagnostic imaging service and hospital coordinators to ensure effective workflow, robust systems, and processes for executing key performances, and outstanding delivery of patient care and hospital hygiene. The post-holder will also play an invaluable role in safety and quality of the diagnostic imaging service. They will work in close partnership with linnaeus safety champions and referral health and safety manager.
- Ensure the x-ray, CT, and MRI machines are switched on, warmed up, and calibrated in good time for the first case of the day.
- Ensure the x-ray, CT, and MRI machines are switched off at the end of each day. Check with the radiologist on call before shutting down CT and MRI.
- Ensure patient details (name, patient ID) have been entered accurately before image acquisition.
- Prepare for and obtain high quality radiographs for all indications, including contrast radiography.
- Prepare for and obtain high quality barium video fluoroscopy studies.
- Prepare for and obtain high quality CT and MRI studies.
- Ensure all diagnostic imaging areas are cleaned, in line with the hospitals infection control policy, after each use, and ready for the next patient procedure.
- Ensure all weekly and monthly checklists are completed, and appropriate stock levels are maintained.
- Assist the head of diagnostic imaging in arranging maintenance and servicing of all diagnostic imaging equipment.
- Complete RPS training and take responsibility for radiation safety in your work area, including checking for and reporting any equipment faults in line with hospital policies.
- Keep up to date with ionising radiation regulations (IRR 2017).
- Supervise all associates, ensuring the local rules and safe working practices with the use of ionising radiation are adhered.
- Ensure the provision of care to patients under your care is of a high standard and meets the hospitals expectations.
- Take operational and professional guidance from clinical teams, to facilitate the workflow within the diagnostic imaging service, to include:
- Assisting with restraint of patients for anaesthetic induction and procedures.
- Assisting with transportation of patients.
- Treat all patients with dignity, care, compassion, and empathy.
- Adhere to the professional code of conduct for radiographers.
- Maintain current professional registration.
- Contribute to the diagnostic imaging service team rota, inclusive of unsociable hours as required and as requested.
- Contribute to the learning, development training, induction, and orientation of new starters and existing associates, as required and as requested.

- The ideal candidate will be a suitably qualified radiographer with a minimum of 1-year post graduate experience.
- Previous experience within the veterinary industry would be desirable.
- Full support and training will be provided for the use of on-site systems and equipment.
